Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most serious chronic diseases of our time. 1 in 10 children are affected by NAFLD and many aren’t even aware of it. The good news is that we can stop the disease by addressing childhood obesity, starting with watching how much sugar we eat.
Program Highlights
Working with Doctors for Change, we created a poster “How Many Chocolate Chips are in Your Favorite Drink?” We posted them in pediatrician offices across the Houston area and are expanding to offer them in schools. The posters are conversations starters for healthcare providers and parents or teachers and students. The QR code on the posters links to our website for more information.
With the Nourish Program at the UT School of Public Health we developed the video posted here for children and parents. It explains fatty liver, how to prevent it, and lifestyle changes that can help if fatty liver is already diagnosed.
